We take charge of the whole site

On every extension we build, we act as principal contractor.

Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, the principal contractor plans, manages and monitors the building work. On your job that responsibility sits with us, from the first day on site to handover. You do not need to appoint anyone else.

On every build

How we run a safe site

01

RAMS before we start

Risk assessments and method statements are written for the job in front of us, not copied from the last one.

02

Construction Phase Plan

Every build has its own plan setting out how the site is run, who does what and how risks are controlled.

03

Site inductions

Everyone who works on the job is taken through the plan and the risks for their task before they start.

04

First aid on our team

We have a trained first aider in the team, and first aid arrangements are set out in every plan.

05

Training on record

We keep a training record for our team, so we know who is qualified for each task on site.

06

Tidy, protected sites

Work areas are kept tidy and secure, and the route through your home is protected and cleaned daily.

RAMS and Construction Phase Plans

Planned on paper before it happens on site

Every build starts with paperwork that gets used, not filed away.

Before work starts we write the Construction Phase Plan for the site and the RAMS for each stage, from groundworks and foundations to the roof. The team is taken through them, and they are updated when the work changes.

Tight sites, run properly

Most of our work happens in back gardens, next to family homes and neighbours.

We plan access, deliveries and storage before we start, keep the work area separate from the rest of the garden, and leave the site secure at the end of every day.

Questions

Health and safety, explained

Who is the principal contractor on my extension?

We are. On every extension we build, Cutwood Joinery & Construction acts as principal contractor, planning, managing and monitoring the work and every trade on site.

What is a Construction Phase Plan?

It is the plan for running the build safely. It sets out how the site is organised, how risks are controlled, the welfare and first aid arrangements, and who is responsible for what. We write one for every build.

What are RAMS?

Risk assessments and method statements. The risk assessment looks at what could go wrong on a task, and the method statement sets out how the task is done safely. We prepare them for each job.

Are you insured?

Yes. We hold employers' liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Do I need to organise anything for health and safety?

No. As principal contractor we take on running the site safely. If anything needs your input, such as access or where deliveries go, we agree it with you before work starts.
