Typical build times on site
- A small single-storey extension: usually around 8 weeks
- A loft conversion: usually 5 to 7 weeks
- A two-storey extension: usually 12 to 16 weeks
- A new build or self build: usually 12 to 16 weeks
These are build times once we are on site. Every project is different, and we give you a programme for your own job before work starts.
Before we start on site
Design, planning permission where it is needed, and the building warrant all come before the build. How long that takes depends on the project and on the council, so it is worth starting the design stage well before you want the builders in.
Our sister company, CWJ Architectural Design Services, handles the drawings, planning and the building warrant, so the build can be planned while the paperwork is in progress.
What affects the build time
- The size and complexity of the project
- What is found in the ground or behind existing walls once work starts
- Weather, especially during groundworks and before the roof is on
- Lead times on windows, doors, steels and kitchens
- Changes to the design once the build is under way
How we keep it on track
Our own team builds it and runs the programme, so there are no separate trades for you to coordinate. Long lead items are ordered early, and you hear from us before you have to ask, including when something changes.
