Shaker Kitchen and Downstairs Renovation, Kilmarnock

About this project

The owners asked us to remodel their whole downstairs. At the centre of it was a new kitchen and dining area, but the job also took in the living room, the entrance hall, the utility room and the downstairs WC. They wanted new flooring running right through and the whole floor decorated, so it all felt like one finished space. The family were at home throughout, and looked after our team very well.

The kitchen is from the Wren Shaker range in Chelsea Cashmere Matt. Before it went in, we rewired the kitchen area and put in all new plumbing, then plastered the walls and ceiling so the units had a smooth, straight background. The kitchen was then fitted by our own team, with the units, worktops and appliances set out to the Wren design.

Across the rest of the downstairs we hung four new Mexicano internal doors, a mix of fully glazed and half glazed, with new ironmongery, and fitted new skirting and facings throughout. Oak laminate flooring was laid across every downstairs room, which ties the kitchen, living room, hall, utility and WC together. Finally, the whole downstairs was painted and wallpapered to the owners' choices. We kept the house tidy and took the waste away as we went, so the rooms not being worked on stayed usable each day.

The warm Cashmere finish on the kitchen, the matching doors and the continuous floor make the downstairs feel like one joined-up space rather than a set of separate rooms. The owners were delighted with the finished result, and we enjoyed working with such welcoming clients.
